Life during the Nigerian Civil War (Biafra)

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

After the eastern region declared itself Biafra in 1967, federal Nigeria fought and blockaded it for 30 months. Starvation, especially among children, killed far more people than the fighting.

Deaths: about 500,000 to 2 million, mostly Biafran civilians who died of starvation.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
