1967–1973
Life during the Egypt's wars with Israel (1967–1973)
Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.
What it meant for ordinary people
Egypt lost Sinai in the Six-Day War of 1967, fought a war of attrition along the Suez Canal, and crossed it in the October War of 1973. About a million people were evacuated from the Canal cities; peace with Israel followed in 1979.
Deaths: about 10,000–15,000 Egyptian soldiers in 1967 and about 10,000–15,000 in 1973.
How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
