Life during the Partition of India

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

British India was split into India and Pakistan (including East Pakistan, now Bangladesh) in August 1947. Mass killings between Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims and one of the largest migrations in history followed in Punjab and Bengal.

Deaths: estimates range from about 200,000 to 2 million; about 15–18 million people were displaced.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
