Life during the Chinese Civil War

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

After Japan's defeat, the Nationalists and Communists fought for control of China, and the Communists won in 1949. Hyperinflation wrecked the cities; about two million people followed the Nationalists to Taiwan, and land reform followed in the countryside.

Deaths: several million, including about 150,000 or more in the siege of Changchun.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
