Life during the Bracero program and Mexican migration to the United States

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

The Bracero program brought about 4.6 million Mexican labour contracts to US farms from 1942 to 1964, and migration continued long after it ended. By 2007 about 12 million Mexican-born people lived in the United States, and remittances sustained many villages.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from our model, estimated from the sources.
