Life during the World War I for the United States, Canada and Australia

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

Canada and Australia sent volunteer armies from 1914; Canada added conscription in 1917, and the United States drafted about 2.8 million men after entering the war that year. Losses were large for small populations, while farms and factories at home prospered on war demand.

Deaths: about 117,000 Americans, 61,000 Canadians and 62,000 Australians in military service.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
