Life during the First Italo-Ethiopian War

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

Italy tried to make Ethiopia a protectorate. Emperor Menelik II's army destroyed the Italian force at Adwa in March 1896, and Ethiopia stayed independent, one of only two African states to do so.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from our model, estimated from the sources.
