Life during the Boxer Rebellion

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

An anti-foreign and anti-Christian movement in north China, backed by the Qing court, besieged the foreign legations in Beijing. An eight-nation army took the capital and looted it, and China had to pay a huge indemnity for 39 years.

Deaths: about 100,000 or more, including tens of thousands of Chinese Christians.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from our model, estimated from the sources.
