Life during the Pogroms in the Russian Empire

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

Waves of anti-Jewish riots in 1881–84 and 1903–06, together with discriminating laws, pushed about two million Jews out of the Russian Empire, mostly to the United States. In the simulation the effect is spread across the whole population, so it is mild; for Jewish families it was far stronger.

Deaths: more than 2,000 Jews killed in the pogroms of 1903–1906.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from our model, estimated from the sources.
