Life during the Great Purge

Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.

What it meant for ordinary people

Stalin's secret police arrested about 1.5 million people in two years under quotas, shooting about half. Party members, officers, engineers, national minorities and anyone with foreign ties were at highest risk.

Deaths: about 680,000–750,000 executed, and hundreds of thousands more died in the camps.

How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
