Life during the Rohingya genocide
Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.
What it meant for ordinary people
Myanmar's army attacked Rohingya villages in Rakhine State in 2016 and on a larger scale in August 2017, killing thousands and burning hundreds of villages. About 700,000 Rohingya fled to camps in Bangladesh, where most remain.
Deaths: about 10,000 or more Rohingya killed; about 700,000 fled to Bangladesh.
How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
