Life during the Polynesian settlement of New Zealand
Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.
What it meant for ordinary people
East Polynesian voyagers reached New Zealand, the last large land mass settled by people, around 1250 to 1300. They found huge flightless moa, which were hunted to extinction within about two centuries. Their descendants became the Māori.
How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from archaeology.
