1315–1317
Life during the Great Famine of 1315–1317
Be born in a place it hit, a few years before it began, and see what it did to five ordinary lives.
What it meant for ordinary people
Years of heavy rain from 1315 ruined harvests across northern Europe, and cattle died of disease soon after. Bread prices rose several-fold and the poor starved. It ended a long period of population growth even before the Black Death.
Deaths: perhaps 10 to 25 percent of the population of some towns.
How hard it hits each person in the game (risk of death, of being conscripted, of leaving) comes from scholarly estimates.
